Visiting Chicago & The North Shore
Things to do
There may be no more beautiful place than Chicago in late September. If you have free time, we highly recommend getting out and seeing some of the amazing things our hometown has to offer! Here are a few:
- The Baháʼí temple (one of only seven in the world) in Wilmette
- Sailing along Lake Michigan and viewing the city from the water is a dream. Plenty of places to do this in the city and up on the North Shore! Text if you need recommendations :)
- Second City is an incredible Saturday night show for anyone who enjoys comedy (and the history of SNL).
- The Chicago Architecture tour is an amazing way to see the city from the river and learn about the city's history and see our stunning skyline. An absolute favorite for a reason! (Many locals* do it every year...which is saying something).
*locals include Caroline :)
Travel
O'hare International Airport
For those of you arriving from out of town (thank you!), we recommend flying into O'Hare for the greatest number of flight options.
Midway International Airport
For additional options (and guests flying on Southwest)!
Getting Around
Ubers & Lyfts are easy to find in the Chicagoland area! If you are staying in the suburbs, we recommend calling an Uber or Lyft at least 10-15 minutes before your necessary departure time.
If you do wish to book a car for the weekend, Hertz (amongst others) offers plentiful options from both Midway and O'Hare airports.
Renaissance Shuttles
There will be two shuttles departing from the Renaissance to the Chicago Botanic Garden, the first leaving at 4:30 and the second at 5. Shuttles back to the Renaissance will be at 10:30 and 11:00pm.
Accommodations
The Deerpath Inn
Lake Forest, Illinois
A favorite of the bride & groom (and the likely location of late night gatherings!) Rooms at the Deerpath Inn book very quickly. We recommend calling to book, as online availability is often inaccurate.
The Renaissance North Shore
Northbrook, Illinois
While not the fanciest, The Renaissance is is very convenient to the venue and offers plenty of rooms! Please see the local transport tab for information about shuttles from the Renaissance to the wedding venue.
The Graduate
Evanston, Illinois
For those looking to stay closer to the city, the Graduate offers a fabulous location in downtown Evanston, just two blocks from stunning beaches. It is situated halfway between the Botanic Gardens and Chicago, with plentiful transportation options.
